It’s pretty amazing that you can google whatever type of sewing pattern you want these days and find some gorgeous free designs. This Madeline Dress from Sewing Rabbit is such a cute little design and easy to find and download. My friends little girl just loves dresses that she can twirl in, so I figured with the large gathered skirt this dress would be perfect.
Sewing Pattern: The Madeline Dress
Fabric: Cotton skirt and Jersey Cotton top
Pattern: Beginner level
I created the basic pattern without the extra top and back parts, which is included in the design because I wanted to check that it actually fits her first. Jessica’s sewing pattern and instructions were very written with step-by-step photo instruction.
If you’re after some nice free dress patterns for girls I also found this page by It’s Always Autumn which gives you links to a number of free dress designs from other bloggers. Now that Craftsy has become harder to search through independent designers I’m discovering more and more bloggers, which is actually a nice change.
I’ve used this decorative trimming around the bodice edge and also used white snaps as the buttons.
It’s seriously so cute!!! If you have a little girl, niece or granddaughter I definitely recommend this pattern. It only took about an hour to make, cutting out the pattern and constructing it all. With such basic patterns it’s also very easy to style it in your own way.
I hope you enjoyed! Happy Sewing!

Great dress! I’m sure she’ll love it.
For my own little girl, I often lopped off leggings and then re-hemmed them with stretch lace so they could serve as cartwheel shorts for underneath. (if you are looking for gift ideas for little girls, Moms appreciate these, especially in the most common dress colours)
